Semana Cultural Latina Iowa City Returns September 26 – October 5, 2025

Weaving Hearts Together: Music, Dance, Poetry, and Memory

Semana Cultural Latina Iowa City is proud to announce the second official edition of this community-driven celebration of Latino arts and culture, taking place September 26 – October 5, 2025, at iconic venues across Iowa City.

Born from the vision of cultural organizers Manny Gálvez and Miriam Alarcón Ávila, and joined by choreographer and educator Eloy Barragán, Semana Cultural highlights the richness, resilience, and creativity of Latino, Hispanic, Chicano, Latine, Latinx, and Indigenous artists from Iowa and beyond.

This year’s program brings traditional and contemporary voices together through film, dance, music, poetry, and visual arts. Highlights include:

  • CINEFAMILIA: Mexican Short Films – Sept. 25 at FilmScene
  • Buyepongo in Concert – Oct. 4 at The Englert Theatre
  • Oct. 5 at The Englert Theatre – Oct. 5 at The Englert Theatre
  • Alebrije Workshop with Miriam Alarcón Ávila – Oct. 5 at the Stanley Museum of Art
  • Pop-Up Art Shows, Exhibitions, Storytimes, and Workshops across Iowa City

Events will take place at:

  • FilmScene
  • Iowa City Public Library
  • Stanley Museum of Art
  • Public Space One

Events are presented in partnership and sponsored by Arts Midwest, The Englert Theatre, FilmScene, Iowa City Public Library, Stanley Museum of Art, the University of Iowa Dance Department, E-Danza, Colectivo Luchart, Latino Fest Iowa City, and the Mexican Consulate in Omaha.
